Forum Petani Kelapa Sawit Berkelanjutan Indonesia (FORTASBI) continues to strengthen collaboration with various parties to meet and support smallholder compliance with sustainability standards and principles, as well as access to financing schemes and assistance available to smallholders.

This FORTASBI collaboration also aims to accelerate RSPO and ISPO certification for smallholders. In 2026, the focus will be on Ketapang, West Kalimantan, West Kotawaringin in Central Kalimantan, and Pelalawan in Riau Province, Sumatra.

In Ketapang, West Kalimantan, 1,031 smallholder had received various training programs. They are targeted to be registered for membership in the RSPO certification scheme by July 2026. Meanwhile, in Pelalawan, Riau, FORTASBI is targeting 500 smallholders.

Rukaiyah Rafik, Head of the FORTASBI Secretariat, “Stated that collaboration is key to strengthening the adoption of sustainability standards and providing access to programs to improve the livelihoods and welfare of smallholders”.

There are numerous benefits to participating in certification or sustainability programs for smallholder. Specifically, certification programs provide farmers with complete plantation identification, including a polygon, plantation boundaries, a legal document for the farmer, or Surat Tanda Daftar Budidaya (STDB), and skills in implementing good plantation practice.

This certification can serve as a database that smallholders groups can use to apply for various assistance from the government or the Indonesian Plantation Management Agency (BPDP), including assistance with facilities and infrastructure, oil palm replanting, and scholarships for smallholder children.

“FORTASBI hopes that more institutions and stakeholders will support the sustainability certification of smallholders”.

With the support of various parties and strong collaboration, this industry will further strengthen its commitment to responsible product traceability, in accordance with the principles and criteria of good plantation management, adaptability to climate change, and global market requirements.
