Presiden RI, Joko Widodo hari ini, Kamis, 7 Juli 2022 meninjau proses penelitian minyak makan merah di Pusat Penelitian Kelapa Sawit (PPKS), Kampung Baru, Medan, Sumatra Utara.
Minyak makan merah merupakan inovasi minyak sawit yang berpotensi digunakan sebagai pangan fungsional dalam membantu pencegahan stunting atau kekerdilan dari masyarakat.
Pemerintah menargetkan penurunan angka stunting hingga menjadi 14 persen di tahun 2024, dari sebelumnya 24,4 persen di tahun 2021.
Menurut Kepala PPKS, Edwin Lubis, nilai gizi minyak makan merah lebih besar jika dibandingkan dengan minyak goreng, sedangkan dalam pengolahannya, PPKS menggunakan teknologi sederhana dengan mempertahankan nutrisi di dalamnya, "keunggulan dari minyak makan merah ini adalah gizi atau kandungan vitamin A dan vitamin E lebih tinggi karena kita mengutamakan nutrisi dalam pengolahannya".
Hadir mendampingi Presiden dalam peninjauan tersebut yakni Menteri Pertanian Syahrul Yasin Limpo, Menteri Koperasi dan UKM Teten Masduki, Menteri Sekretaris Negara Pratikno, Menteri Pekerjaan Umum dan Perumahan Rakyat (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono, dan Gubernur Sumatra Utara Edy Rahmayadi.
Sejumlah anggota FORTASBI juga turut hadir dalam kegiatan ini yakni di antaranya Antonius Anyu dan S. Masiun dari CUKK/APKS-KK, Ardiansyah Simto Sirait dari Koperasi Konsumen Bersatu Makmur Jaya, dan Koperasi Sekunder Produksi Karya Sawit Mandiri/KUD Tani Subur yang diwakili Nur Hasim selaku pembina.
Sebelumnya pemerintah melalui Kementerian Koperasi dan UKM telah mencanangkan program korporatisasi petani, yang salah satunya membangun proyek percontohan pabrik minyak sawit merah atau minyak makan merah.
Proyek percontohan pengembangan minyak makan merah oleh koperasi mulai diinisiasi di Sumatra Utara, Riau, Jambi, dan Kalimantan Tengah.
Dari empat lokasi tersebut, tiga di antaranya yakni di Sumatra Utara, Jambi dan Kalimantan Tengah merupakan lokasi anggota FORTASBI.
