Ditengah kondisi Indonesia yang terkepung asap diberbagai wilayah di Indonesia akibat dari kebakaran lahan dan hutan, pada hari senin lalu, 23 September 2019, di Hotel Mercure Ancol, Jakarta, dalam acara “Pertemuan Petani; Bergotong Royong Mempercepat Pencapaian minyak sawit berkelanjutan di Indonesia” Sebanyak 32 Kelompok Petani yang terdiri dari KUD, Gapoktan, Asosiasi, Bumdes, Forum Petani dan Kelompok Tani, yang berasal dari Sumatera Utara, Jambi, Riau, Sumatera Selatan, Pangkalan Bun, Katingan, Seruyan, SIntang dan Kongbeng Kutai Timur, menyatakan komitmen untuk mentransformasikan minyak sawit berkelanjutan dengan skema sertifikasi ISPO, RSPO dan ISCC di Indonesia.
Implementasi standar minyak sawit berkerlanjutan menggunakan standar ISPO dan RSPO serta ISCC adalah salah satu cara mengurangi dan membatasi kerusakan lingkungan, dan mengurangi bahaya perubahan iklim. “Kami yang terdiri dari 32 Kelompok Petani di Indonesia dengan jumlah petani sebanyak 6.717 Petani dengan luas 16.683 Ha mengkonfirmasi bahwa tiada titik api dan kebakaran dilahan kami tersebut. Ini adalah dampak dari komitmen kami yang bersungguh-sungguh mengimplementasikan praktek terbaik dalam pengelolaan kebun sawit kami.” Ungkap H. Narno yang juga adalah ketua dari FORTASBI (Forum Petani Kelapa Sawit Berkelanjutan Indonesia). “Tidak hanya itu, sertifikasi minyak sawit berkelanjutan telah mendorong beberapa kelompok petani swadaya melindungi Kawasan-kawasan penting dibeberapa wilayah. Perlindungan sungai, hingga perlindungan area yang memiliki nilai konservasi tinggi”. Lanjut H.Narno dalam presentasinya.
Sertifikasi minyak sawit berkelanjutan adalah salah satu solusi yang dapat digunakan oleh petani swadaya di Indonesia, ditengah gempuran kampanye bahwa petani adalah pembakar lahan, petani swadaya adalah perusak hutan. Petani hendaknya menunjukkan bahwa tudingan tersebut adalah salah besar, justru petani mandri adalah petani yang memiliki peluang untuk menjadi pihak terdepan yang dapat memerangi perubahan iklim dengan mendorong praktek-praktek terbaik dalam pengelolaan kebun kelapa sawit dan pengelolaan lingkungan.
FORTASBI adalah rumah besar petani-petani mandiri di Indonesia, untuk belajar tentang praktek terbaik minyak sawit berkelanjutan menggunakan skema ISPO, RSPO dan ISCC. FORTASBI dibentuk oleh Kelompok-kelompok petani mandiri yang berkomitmen untuk mendorong dan mengimplementasikan minyak sawit berkelanjutan di Indonesia. Hingga tahun 2019, anggota FORTASBI telah mencapai 33 Kelompok yang terdiri dari KUD, Asosiasi dan Gapoktan dari seluruh Indonesia. dari keseluruhan anggota FORTASBI, 95% petani telah bersertifikat sustainability.
